Astronomy is the science that observes and studies the movement of celestial bodies such as stars, planets and surrounding phenomena. This science has made huge leaps with the invention of the telescope and the scientific results achieved through space flight. Black hole is one of the latest discoveries, so what do you know about?
At a distance of 55 million light years, at the heart of a giant elliptical galaxy called Messier 87, there is a giant monster devouring anything driven by its ill-tits to approach it, stars, planets, gas, dust, and not even light can escape from the grip of that giant monster, once they cross the threshold of its own cave, known as the event horizon.
Last April, scientists unveiled the image of this giant monster, a massive black hole with a mass of about 6.5 billion suns. The image showed a circular void surrounded by an unbalanced ring of light, and this historical image was the first image of a black hole.
What is inside a black hole?
We can not know what is inside a black hole’s event horizon because light and materials can not reach us there. Even if we send an explorer inside the black hole, the craft can never contact us. Current theories expect that all the material entering and forming a black hole will accumulate at one point in the center, but we do not understand how this central uniqueness works.
To properly understand the center of a black hole, we need to combine the theory of gravity with the theory that describes the behavior of matter at the smallest scales, and this is one of the most important unsolved problems in physics.
